Conference on rap and feminism organized by the association Sexprimons Nous at Sciences Po Bordeaux, January 21, 2019
Sexprimons-Nous welcomes Éloïse Bouton, creator of the website Madame Rap, the first media platform dedicated to women in hip-hop. Her goal? To give visibility to female street arts, female rappers, queer rap, LGBTQIA+ in hip-hop, and rarely heard rap discourse!
Éloïse Bouton is an author, feminist activist, and independent journalist. She has worked for Causette, Le Parisien magazine, Femme actuelle, and l’Express, and has been involved in various feminist organizations, such as Osez le féminisme, La Barbe, and Femen. Today, she has grown tired of collective activism and continues to advocate without labels.
The relationship between rap and feminism? Rap is often criticized for its sexism. For Éloïse Bouton, hip hop and feminism are not incompatible: that’s the theme we’ll address during the conference!
