Paye Ton Troll – The Tumblr Denouncing Cyberbullying

A target of cyberbullies since 2012, I spent years ignoring or blocking them. Then one day, I decided to respond to them and take the opposite approach to these attacks. I began posting these exchanges on my Facebook page and created the Tumblr Paye Ton Troll in February 2017, inspired by Paye Ta Shnek launched in 2012 by Anaïs Bourdet to denounce street harassment.

This approach is a form of catharsis, but also a way to raise visibility about the scourge of cyberbullying, to raise awareness among as many people as possible about this problem that is still rarely discussed though commonplace, and to encourage other women to break the silence, shame, and isolation into which this violence (online but very real) can plunge them. It’s also about alerting public authorities to the scale of the phenomenon and urging them to take action against this sexist online harassment.
